BROBOT

My indie web series BROBOT follows a pot-smoking robot failing his way through high school and friendships in the fictional suburb of Hillsdale. It's a young adult comedy with coming of age and sci-fi themes. I'm responsible for everything in the show -- the story/script, voiceovers and soundtrack mixing, background and character design, storyboards (or) animation, and post-production.

I've been working on BROBOT for many years -- the first episode dates to 2017. Start with the most recent though -- they're most indicative of my abilities. It's episodic, so you can jump in at any point. Currently I've got three fully-animated shows, with the others in storyboard form! My plan is to finish the boards before animating them (which takes forever, as I am one person). There will be 11 in the first season. All shows were made in Harmony/Storyboard Pro. Please enjoy!

Want more BROBOT info? Check out some scripts; I'll post unreleased shows as I complete a draft. You can also follow me for more updates.

S01E05 • "The Miracle of Milo"

Milo must choose between his friends and eternity when his faith is questioned; meanwhile, Brother Nelson grapples with a new megachurch in this special religious episode.

This is my favorite BROBOT show to date, partially inspired by my upbringing. It hits all the marks: it says something, it's funny and sweet, subversive but family-oriented, has all types of comedy (dumb, satirical, weird, clever) and perfect story structure, showcases cinematic storyboards, it utilizes a secondary character and the whole ensemble cast, and more! It's a perfect distillation of everything I'm going for.

S01E04 • "Midway Madness"

It’s not all fun and games at the county fair when Brobot and Celia switch places…and get chased by creepy carnies.

This episode went though draft after draft... it was a difficult show! Something about the storyline, stakes, and pacing were hard to crack. The final result is a tightly-constructed script with a fun twist. As you may notice, from here onward BROBOT will be in storyboard form only -- that way, I can make more episodes! Just imagine a female voice for Celia instead of my own...

S01E03 • "Hillsdaleoween"

After summoning a zombie apocalypse on Halloween, the gang has to take ghastly measures to save the city of Hillsdale... or else they may be put in the grave forever.

I’m fond of this episode and the memories of making it are warm. It was a mad dash to finish it by my self-imposed Halloween deadline, and it marked big improvements in story, animation, color, and more. It moves at a good clip. My Dad got to voice a character too!

S01E02 • "Just Say Bro"

Brobot runs for class president and wins, but loses two of his greatest loves: Celia and weed.

This episode was a blast to work on and fast to develop — it took less than a year to make. It makes use of some simple Harmony rigs that reduced its production time. It’s so much sillier, simpler, and naturalistic than its predecessor, tonally more in line with the later shows.

S01E01 • "I. Brobot"

The debut pilot episode! Brobot misses a date with Celia after sleeping in stoned, leading to the destruction of time itself.

As it was made so long ago (2017!), this show can be a rough watch today: crude designs and animation, plus a confusing sci-fi storyline that feels disconnected from the show that followed. Even so, it introduces the main cast and setting nicely, and asks important questions about Brobot himself that we touch on throughout the series: is he a screw-up, or is he more? Worth a watch!
